Bitter herbs and enzyme rich plant extracts revered for their ability to stimulate and replenish the liver while soothing inflammation in the gut and colon. Supporting healthy digestive function and the bodies ability to clear toxic waste.

Liquid extracts are considered the most bioavailable form of natural remedies, as the liquid form is able to bypass the digestion process (which usually takes hours), straight into the bloodstream. Allowing liquid extracts to work faster and more efficiently, requiring less of the remedy to get results.

Additionally, tasting the plants in this liquid form is an essential part of herbalism and signals the beginning of the medicinal effect in the body.

DIGESTIVE BITTERS FOR LIVER & COLON HEALTH

MILK THISTLE

This plant has earned it's reputation as the ultimate Liver protector. Well known for it powerful antioxidant properties that can actually repair damaged Liver cells while reducing inflammation with a cooling effect that brings balance to an overworked Liver.

Milk Thistle is somewhat unique in that it also contains fatty acids and mucilage in it's seeds, making it a moistening herb that helps hydrate and direct fluid within the body. Compared with most cooling herbs that tend to be drying.

While doing so much for the Liver, blood and detoxification pathways, Milk Thistle is also extremely gentle on the body. It's known as a herb you can take for every kind of Liver conditions, for long periods of time, without worry of over-stimulating or strain.

FENNELL

Used through-out history and modern times as a remedy for the stomach and intestines. It’s known to relieve indigestion and symptoms such as flatulence, abdominal pain and feelings of fullness after eating small amounts.

Fennell Seeds are also rich in the antioxidant Quercetin, which is known for its ability to inhibit free-radicals, stimulate the immune system, along with anti-viral and anti-inflammatory activity that has made it helpful in treating allergies and histamine-related inflammation.

This anti-inflammation effect has also proven useful in the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel diseases.

DANDELION ROOT

In herbalism it's believed that plants show up where they are most needed, and well, Dandelion shows up everywhere. A persistent plant often found growing in yards, street corners and cracks in the pavement. Perhaps alluding to it's necessity within our eco-system.

Dandelion is highly nutritive, full of minerals and health promoting properties. As a bitter tonic, the root supports digestive health, improving the function of the liver and gallbladder. Yet it also has a high inulin content.

Inulin is a type of prebiotic that travels to the lower gut, where it functions as a food source for beneficial gut bacteria - helping to breakdown and absorb nutrients from our food, while aiding in the removal of waste. Making this a great tonic for restoring the flora of the digestive tract.

YELLOW DOCK

As a bitter tonic, Yellow dock is considered to be one of the best herbs for the entire digestive system. The taproot is rich in anthraquinone, which has a laxative effect, commonly used to enhance digestion and promote bowel movements. However, unlike harsh laxatives, Yellow Dock works gently with the body's natural rhythms.

In Ayurveda Yellow Dock is used to balanced excess Pitta. In this ancient medicine system, excess Pitta is associated with feelings of anger, irritability and tension. Interestingly, in TCM the suppression of Anger is known to create tension and stagnation in the Liver.

From this perspective we can see how Yellow Dock can help restore balance to the digestive system by releasing blocked emotions (energy in motion), helping us move forward and gain a deeper understanding of ourselves.

PAPAYA LEAF

Papaya leaves are an abundant source of antioxidants, vitamin A, B, C, calcium and iron. The plant is rich in the enzyme Papain, which is known to increase platelet count, along with red and white blood cells, making it a useful tonic to purify the blood.

Papain is also a digestive enzyme, effective in helping the stomach breakdown food while increasing nutrient absorption. Usually, the Liver is responsible for producing such enzymes, however a high fat diet, alcohol and imbalanced lifestyle factors often lead to a sluggish liver that can struggle with this process. For this reason, Papaya leaves are effective support for liver function, relieving constipation, bloating and gastro-intestinal dysfunction.

Because of Papaya leaves strong antioxidant content and ability to increase red and white blood cell count, studies declare the leaf extract to have rich anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties.

CHAMOMILE

A forever favourite for it's calming effect on the nervous system, despite Chamomile's commonality, it is a complex herb with properties that also make it amazing for the digestive system.

Chamomile's high content of volatile oils lend a deeply floral and aromatic flavour that combines with a highly bitter taste. These flavour profiles directly translate to the herbs medicinal effects within the body.

Aromatic herbs have a calming effect on the nervous system while bitter herbs have an affinity for the digestive system and stimulating gastric secretion. Hence making this natural combination within Chamomile the perfect remedy for people that experience digestive issues in response to stress.
