    Gua Sha History & Benefits

Body Gua Sha (meaning "to scrape away") has deep roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), dating back over 2,000 years. It originated as a folk healing technique across China and Southeast Asia, used to treat illnesses related to heat, stagnation, and poor blood circulation.

In TCM, disease often arises from blocked Qi (energy) and blood stasis. Gua Sha was developed to "scrape away" these blockages and restore the body's natural flow of energy. The scraping brings up petechiae (known as "sha") — small red or purple dots — which indicate the release of stagnation.

Historically, Gua Sha was used to:

    1. Boost circulation and lymphatic flow

    2. Expel heat and inflammation from the body

    3. Relieve pain, tension, and fatigue

    4. Strengthen immunity and support detoxification
